Community Guidelines
Last updated: August 2026
These Guidelines describe the conduct standards PollVey enforces. Everything below reflects a control that exists in the product today — we have deliberately left out anything we do not actually do.
1. Purpose and scope
The Terms of Service are the contract between you and PollVey. These Guidelines are the conduct standard those Terms refer to. Where the two differ on a question of contract, the Terms govern.
They apply to every account — personal and business — and to everything you create or send on PollVey: polls, surveys, options and descriptions, comments, direct and group messages, profiles, handles, and uploaded media.
They apply equally to content you write yourself and content you produce with PollVey's AI features. Using an AI assistant does not change who is accountable for what is published.
Where local law is stricter than these Guidelines, local law applies. Nothing here grants permission to do something the law prohibits.
2. Content standards by category
PollVey checks content against two separate questions, and they have different answers. The first is whether the content may exist on PollVey at all. The second is who is allowed to receive it. Content can pass the first and still be limited by the second.
Prohibited — not allowed at any audience setting
Content in these categories is blocked at publication. Choosing an adults-only audience does not make it publishable:
- Hate speech
- Harassment
- Bullying
- Discrimination
- Illegal activity
- Malware or malicious links
- Scams
- Spam
- Copyright infringement
- Misinformation
When content is blocked for one of these reasons, PollVey tells the author: "This content cannot be published because it violates PollVey's Community Guidelines."
Age-restricted — allowed, but only to adults
Content in these categories is not removed from the platform. Instead, it is restricted to verified users aged 18 and over:
- Sexual content
- Content unsuitable for teenagers
- Violence
If you try to send age-restricted content to a general audience, PollVey asks you to change the audience to 18+ only or revise the content. If you set the audience to 18+, PollVey confirms the content is approved for users aged 18 and older and tells you that users under 18 were automatically excluded.
3. Audience and age standards
You must be at least 13 years old to use PollVey, or older where your local law sets a higher minimum.
- Adults-only content is filtered by recipient, not just by setting. When an adults-only poll or survey goes to a group, PollVey delivers it to eligible adult members and excludes the rest. The author is told: "This group includes users under 18. PollVey will send this only to eligible adult members."
- Unverified age is treated as under-18. If PollVey does not know a recipient's age, that person does not receive adults-only content. Age-restricted content can only be delivered to verified users aged 18 and older.
- Exclusion is automatic. An author cannot override it for an individual recipient, and a recipient cannot opt in.
Protections for teen accounts (13–17)
Accounts belonging to teenagers start with private defaults, and those defaults are enforced on our servers rather than in the app — so they cannot be loosened by changing a setting on a device:
- Private profile, and no appearance in search
- Follower requests require approval
- No public profile page
- Messages limited to accounts the teen follows
- Mentions limited to friends
PollVey also blocks contact between adults and teenagers who have no established relationship. A relationship counts as established if the two accounts are friends, share an approved poll group, or are linked as guardian and teen.
Guardians
A parent or guardian can be linked to a teen's account. Once the link is active, the guardian can require approval for new contacts, set a daily time limit and downtime hours, and receive safety alerts. A guardian link can be revoked.
4. Harassment and personal safety
Harassment, bullying and discrimination are prohibited categories — content in them is blocked, not merely restricted.
Separately from content review, PollVey watches for behaviour patterns. If an account accumulates enough safety signals within a rolling 24-hour window — blocked attempts to contact minors, blocks received from other users, reports filed against it, or unusually high volumes of friend requests, follow attempts or messages — the account is automatically restricted and a report is filed for review. The restriction lifts once the account's recent activity falls back below the threshold.
You can block any account from within the app. Blocking is enforced on the server, not just hidden in your view.
Deleting your account does not clear a safety restriction. When an account is deleted, PollVey keeps its safety and moderation records without your name, email or phone number, and matches them using a one-way identifier. If the same person registers again, an existing restriction can reattach to the new account. See the account deletion page for what is kept and why.
5. Spam and platform manipulation
Spam is a prohibited category. In addition:
- PollVey processes at most 10 unique @mentions per piece of content. Mentions beyond that are not delivered.
- Mentions respect the recipient's mention setting. If someone limits mentions to friends, followers or nobody, mentioning them outside that circle does not reach them.
- Handles that impersonate PollVey staff or official accounts are rejected at registration, along with a set of reserved names. This check is a blocklist, so it catches known patterns rather than every possible variation — impersonation can also be reported.
6. Fraud, scams and deception
Scams, malicious links and illegal activity are prohibited categories and are blocked at publication. Do not use a poll or survey as a pretext to collect payment details, credentials or personal information under false pretences.
Impersonating a person, business or organisation is not permitted. PollVey tracks impersonation and handle disputes as their own kinds of moderation case, so a claim that an account is impersonating you can be raised and resolved.
7. Illegal content
Content depicting or facilitating the sexual exploitation of minors, grooming behaviour, credible threats of violence, encouragement of self-harm, and hate slurs are detected by a rule-based check that runs before anything is published. That check is authoritative: content it blocks cannot be published, and no AI assessment can overturn it.
Reports that concern a minor, grooming, exploitation or child safety are automatically marked severe and opened for review rather than queued as routine.
8. AI-generated content
PollVey's AI features produce drafts. A person reviews, edits and publishes them — PollVey does not publish AI output on your behalf.
These Guidelines apply to AI-assisted content exactly as they apply to anything else, and the same checks run on it. Accountability sits with the account that publishes, not with the model.
Content you submit for AI drafting or for the pre-publication moderation check is sent to our AI provider for processing. What is sent, and to whom, is described in the Privacy Policy.
9. Business account conduct
Business accounts are held to everything above, plus the following.
- Invitations. Invite people to your organisation using their business email address. Invitations are recorded, and their delivery and acceptance are tracked.
- Roles and accountability. Each organisation has a business administrator who is accountable for billing, membership, roles and ownership. Other members hold manager, editor or viewer roles, which limit what they can do.
- One complimentary trial per business. The complimentary 14-Day Business Trial belongs to the organisation, not to an individual. Each verified business organisation receives exactly one. Colleagues who join during the trial share the same remaining time.
- Trial-abuse checks. To enforce that limit, PollVey compares one-way identifiers derived from an organisation's email domain, business name, phone number and address against its own trial history. Repeated registrations, very similar business names, matching addresses or phone numbers, several accounts claiming the same organisation, and deleted accounts attempting a new trial are flagged for verification before a trial starts.
- Deleting and re-registering does not reset the Business Trial. Business Trial history is kept after a business account is deleted, specifically so this rule holds.
These checks restrict eligibility for the complimentary Business Trial only. They never block a paid subscription. A business that has already used its trial can subscribe at any time.
10. How moderation works
- Before publication. Every poll or survey passes a rule-based check and an AI check. The rule-based check decides whether content is prohibited. The AI check can add categories the rules did not catch — it can never clear something the rules blocked.
- The outcome. Content is classified as suitable for all ages, allowed for adults only, or prohibited. You are shown the classification and the reason before you publish.
- After publication. Content and accounts can be reported by users, and automated safety signals can file a report without anyone doing so.
- Review. A report becomes a moderation case. Cases are reviewed by the PollVey team, move through open, in review, escalated, resolved or dismissed, and carry an audited record of who changed what.
- Cases involving minors are marked as such and are visible only to reviewers with specific authorisation to see them.
11. Reporting
You can report a poll, a survey, a direct message, a group message, a user or a business from within the app. A report records what you are reporting, why, and any detail you add.
Reports that indicate a risk to a minor are marked severe and go straight into review. Every report opens a case that a reviewer can act on.
You can see the reports you have filed in the app.
We do not publish a response time. PollVey does not currently commit to reviewing a report within any particular period, and we would rather say so than publish a target we do not measure.
12. Consequences
Depending on what happened, PollVey may:
- Block the content at publication
- Restrict the audience to adults
- Close a poll or survey
- Issue a warning to the account
- Restrict the account, or restrict its ability to mention other users
- Require the account to change its handle
- Suspend the account temporarily
- Suspend the account permanently
Automatic safety restrictions are temporary and are tied to recent activity. Restrictions applied by a reviewer stay until a reviewer removes them. Permanent suspension requires a second reviewer authorisation step and is not applied automatically.
13. If you disagree with a decision
PollVey does not currently have an appeals button in the app. We are not going to describe a process that does not exist.
If you believe a decision about your content or your account was wrong, write to support@pollvey.com and explain what happened. A reviewer can reopen and change a moderation case, including reversing a restriction or a suspension. We do not commit to a response time, and contacting support does not guarantee the decision changes.
14. Escalation and legal requests
Reports involving minors, grooming, exploitation or child safety are marked severe, are reviewed rather than dismissed automatically, and can be escalated to a higher review status.
Legal notices, law-enforcement enquiries and copyright complaints should be sent to support@pollvey.com.
15. Changes to these Guidelines
We will update these Guidelines as the product changes. When we do, the "last updated" date above changes with them. If a change materially affects what is allowed, we will say so in the app.
